Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for June 29, 1907: “Officials say that since alfalfa was introduced in Kansas it has been a potent factor in increasing bank deposits and prosperity. Kansas leads all the states in its production. Acreage is increasing all over America, but nowhere as fast as in Kansas. : The boulevard scheme to connect Ohio and Tennessee streets by opening up a drive along a river bluff is a good one, but officials point out the city cannot presently afford such a luxury. The city’s bonded debt is heavy and floating more debt is not on the agenda for now. : A number of top speakers are due for the ‘rock road’ gathering to discuss the proposed new Lawrence-Kansas City road.”
