Anaheim, Calif. ? Kansas City manager Buddy Bell and his Los Angeles counterpart Mike Scioscia were both eager to turn the page after the Royals swept the Angels in three games. For different reasons, though.

“Hit and get out of here,” Bell said. “We played about as well as we could the last three days and we caught them at a time where they weren’t playing so good. I would prefer not to have to play these guys a whole lot. They’re just a little bit ahead of us experience-wise.”

The Royals have won four straight for the first time since July 4-7 last year and at 14-11 is assured of a winning month for the first time since July 2003 (15-11). The Royals had not blanked an opponent since Sept. 5 against the New York Yankees.

Los Angeles, shut out for the fourth time this season, had 10 hits but didn’t advance a runner past second, stranding six and hitting into two double plays. Royals catcher Jason LaRue twice threw out runners attempting to steal.

“Those guys beat us and there’s no sense looking back,” Scioscia said. “We didn’t play well enough in these three games to win them. We just couldn’t get the hit with guys in scoring position.”

Kansas City outscored the Angels 18-7 in the series. The Angels had matched a franchise record by winning nine consecutive series since the AL champion Tigers took two of three from them in Detroit from May 22-24.

“Early on in the season, we just weren’t finishing off games. Now we’re starting to put together full games,” Teahen said. “We’re a young team. As guys get more comfortable playing at this level, we’ll start producing more. Our team is starting to settle in.”

Los Angeles hadn’t been swept in a series since losing three at Boston from April 13-16 and hadn’t been swept at home since Seattle won three from June 9-11 last season.

“They played good baseball. That’s all it was,” Angels third baseman Chone Figgins said. “Everybody in the major leagues is a good team, but it’s a matter of whether you’re going to come to play or not. And they came to play all three games.”

De La Rosa (5-9) gave up 10 hits in six-plus innings. He had lost his previous six decisions, including one in relief.

“He had a lot better command,” LaRue said. “I said that I wanted to work a little bit faster and especially get ahead of guys.”

Octavio Dotel pitched the ninth for his eighth save in 10 chances, completing three perfect innings for Kansas City’s bullpen.

Jered Weaver (6-4), who had won his prior five decisions, allowed four hits in seven innings, struck out six and walked one. Two days earlier, a severe sore throat caused him to leave the ballpark early.

“We didn’t expect to lose three straight to a team like this, especially the way we’ve been playing lately,” Weaver said. “But their pitching kept our hitters on their heels and we just couldn’t get anything going. But we’ve just got to shake it off. We won nine series in a row before this, so we’ve just got to come back and win the next one.”

Teahen’s two-out third-inning hit followed a bunt single by Joey Gathright and a walk to David DeJesus.

Notes: The Royals won the season series, 5-2. … The Angels have lost five in a row to the Royals. … Kansas City’s previous 1-0 win was May 4 last year at Minnesota. … Angels CF Reggie Willits crashed into the wall with an audible thud and fell to the ground after catching a fly ball from DH Billy Butler in the seventh. After a brief delay during which a trainer checked him out, Willits stayed in the game. He left in the eighth, was diagnosed with a bruised right knee and was to have X-rays. “His knee’s a little sore and he banged his arm a little bit, so we’ll evaluate him on Friday,” Scioscia said. … De La Rosa is 3-0 in day games and 2-9 in 13 night outings.
