Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for June 27, 1907: “The people who live within the radius of a block about the north half of Central Park are in favor of a scheme to erect a fountain and dig a well in that portion of the park this summer. Funds are to be raised by subscription and the fountain would be about 50 feet north of Winthrop Street and about 50 feet west of Kentucky. It is very close to a big oak tree that will provide shade for much of the warmer weather when people can enjoy the fountain. : Even if we are not blessed with a sane Fourth of July, at least so far we have a sane period leading up to it with nobody illegally using fireworks, which are not usable until the morning of July 4.”
