David Eisenhower was a special guest at the dedication of Lecompton's historical Lane University building, where his great-grandparents, the parents of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, had met and were married. After eight years of renovation work, the Lecompton Historical Society realized its dream with the rededication of the building.

Cottonwood Inc. announced the appointment of Howard Hasler, 34, as its new director. The Garden City native had been on the job for about a week. He replaced Gary Condra, former school administrator, who had been on the job at Cottonwood for 10 years. Condra said he planned to start a private residential program for the elderly and handicapped.
