Indians 8, Athletics 5

Cleveland - Kelly Shoppach's pinch-hit three-run homer capped a five-run ninth inning rally and lifted Cleveland.

Shoppach hit a 1-0 pitch from Alan Embree (1-1) into the left-field bleachers for his fourth homer and lifted the Indians to their sixth win in nine games. Travis Hafner's two-out, two-run double tied it.

Orioles 3, Yankees 2

Baltimore - Corey Patterson capped a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate by scoring the winning run in the ninth.

St. Petersburg, Fla. - Andy Gonzalez and Jim Thome homered to back Jon Garland's strong pitching and help Chicago snap a season-worst, five-game losing streak.

Gonzalez, who had four hits and drove in two runs, hit his first career homer - a two-run shot off James Shields (6-3) in the fifth inning. Thome hit the 482nd of his career for a 5-0 lead.
