Public hearing set for revised Wal-Mart plans

The Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission on Monday unanimously agreed that revised plans for a new Wal-Mart in northwestern Lawrence are a substantial change from the plan submitted in June 2006 and therefore can proceed to the next step in the planning process.

Planning rules dictate that a developer cannot resubmit plans that have been rejected unless a substantial amount of time has passed.

The new set of plans for the northwest corner of Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive include such changes as removing an apartment complex from the site and replacing it with a large native grass area.

The public hearing on the revised plan will take place at the commission’s July 23 meeting.
