Irving, Texas ? Don Beebe was named interim Big 12 Conference commissioner just days after Kevin Weiberg announced he was stepping down on July 15.

Beebe, currently the Big 12’s senior associate commissioner, will assume head duties until a permanent successor is sought. The Big 12 is announcing no timetable to find that person, though a statement read “every effort will be made to conclude the search at the earliest possible time.”

Beebe has been with the Big 12 since 2003, after serving as commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference for 14 years. Weiberg is resigning to take a position with the Big Ten Network.
