Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for June 21, 1907: “The city marshal is publishing a daily notice to people to cut the weeds on and about their premises. Every good citizen should take care of these chores without having the police step in. There are always delinquents but we all should avoid overgrowth as much as possible. : All the members of the university’s latest law class passed their bar examinations yesterday in Topeka. The examinees tested at the desks in the Senate chamber. : Negotiations continue on how to bring about a new rock road between here and Kansas City. People from all parts of the route have been talking about the best way to get the job done. : More and more we see a general strike of telegraphers which will be harmful to many all over the nation, including here. Much business is done by wire. : Officers reiterated today their intentions to crack down and punish anyone using fireworks before the morning of July 4. No arrests have been made yet but they are promised from violators. That is good news to many.”
