Panthers use big fifth to claw past Storm

Trailing by five runs after four innings, the Panthers rallied in the final three inning to defeat the Storm, 11-10, on Saturday at 4-H Fields.

The Panthers scored five runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game at six, before adding three in the sixth and two in the seventh to win.

Narito Mendez led off the Panthers’ fifth with an infield hit and scored on an RBI-double Alex Goertz hit to deep left field. Stephen Anderson scored Goertz with an RBI-groundout.

Alex Trent then doubled to left-center and scored on a Nick Pippert RBI-single. T.J. Bidenbender drove in the last two runs of the inning with a double to left.

The Panthers scored two critical runs in the top of the seventh with RBI singles by Chris Allen and Jake Rogers.

Trailing 11-8 in their last at bat, the Storm came up a run short after Kenny Retter knocked in Montana Locke and later scored on a passed ball.

Locke went five-for-five and scored four runs for the Storm. Panthers relief pitcher Chris Allen struck out six batters in three innings in the victory.
