Missouri man sentenced for stealing semi of meat

? A Missouri man was sentenced Monday to 10 months in prison for stealing a semitrailer full of meat in Omaha and trying to sell it in Kansas City, Mo.

Michael Foster, 48, of Kansas City, stole the refrigerated semi containing about 39,000 pounds of prime meat from Nebraska Beef in October 2005, according to the U.S. attorney’s office in Omaha.

Foster and others drove the semi to Kansas City, where they tried to sell some of the meat, kept some for themselves and left some to spoil at an abandoned warehouse.

Foster pleaded guilty in June to interstate transportation of stolen property. He is liable for the loss to Nebraska Beef, estimated at $115,400.

Foster could have been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
