Abel sparks Raiders past All-Stars, 15-9

? Leadoff hitter Matthew Abel went 4-for-6 to lead a 15-hit attack as Lawrence’s Raiders defeated Oklahoma Spivey All-Stars, 15-9, on Sunday in Legion baseball at Kansas State’s field.

Abel had a triple, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Also, Jason Sneegas, Hunter Scheib and Kyle Cross each had two hits for the Raiders (8-8).

Eleven Raider batters had at least one hit. Caleb Gress was the winning pitcher, with relief help from Alex Hardman and Travis Spurling.

“We are starting to play a lot better. We made a lot of progress over the weekend,” Raiders coach Shaun Edmondson said. “We jumped on them early and scored in every inning through five innings. We were able to sustain the lead. It was a well-played game.”

The Raiders, who have won five of six games, will meet Spivey All-Stars in a nine-inning game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Free State.
