Raiders split twinbill

? Lawrence’s Raiders split a pair of 3-2 games against the Kansas City Barnstormers on Friday, winning the first game in nine innings, then falling in regulation in the nightcap.

Drew Hulse went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and John Novotny went 2-3 with a run scored, while Travis Sanders was 1-3 with two RBIs in the opener.

Joe Kornbrust allowed two runs off three hits with four strikeouts in eight innings.

The winning run was plated on a Sanders grounder to second that scored Novotny.

Matthew Abel went 2-3 with an RBI, one run and two stolen bases in the second game. Hulse and Kyle Cross combined on a seven-hitter.

“It was really high quality baseball,” Raiders coach Shaun Edmondson said. “Both were well played games in all areas. The effort was tremendous.”

“Our pitching in general was really good. They laid it all out there.”

The Raiders (5-8) will meet the Oklahoma All-Stars in a pair of games starting at 4 p.m. today at Kansas State’s field. The Raiders will play another doubleheader against the Spivey All Stars of Oklahoma on Sunday.
