4-H and FCE news

The Vinland Family and Community Education unit will meet for a noon luncheon Tuesday at the home of Kay Ellen Hess. Paula Johnson will give a lesson on the history of Haskell Indian Nations University.

¢The Douglas County 4-H Council met April 16. Wesley Callahan, president, called the meeting to order. Lacey Hunsinger, secretary, read the previous meeting’s minutes, which were approved. Whitney Box, treasurer; Tori Booth, fair board representative; and Shon Price, parliamentarian; gave their reports. Kjrsten Abel Ruch, program coordinator, gave her Top 12 announcements.

Committees met and gave their reports. The officer training committee announced that training will be Oct. 11. The trips and awards committee reported that the next meeting will be June 18, and the group will need to look over state pin applications and guidelines.

The member-at-large committee approved rules for plans that will be sent to the state for approval. The Achievement Night committee discussed the decorations needed for the celebration. The concession stand committee needed to know whether the council will be able to fill in during Jackpot Barrel Racing, and clubs are needed to fill additional spots at the stand during the fair. All representatives need to sign up for concession stand duty for Jackpot Barrel Racing, which is planned for July 27.

The Friendship Night committee discussed activities for the Ice Cream Social, which is set for Sept. 29.

It was announced that all 4-H clubs need to have their chemotherapy kits turned in by the next meeting. The constitution was amended by dividing it into five sections.
