Customers who bring a gently worn pair of shoes to The Etc. Shop in downtown Lawrence today and Saturday will receive $25 off a pair of new Brighton shoes.

The discount is made possible through Brighton Accessories and Soles4Souls, a nonprofit organization that partners with charities and governments worldwide to give shoes to people in need. Soles4Souls will receive all the footwear collected during the event.

The Soles4Souls team coordinated relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and hurricanes Katrina and Rita, bringing in more than one million pairs of shoes for those disasters. The team originally operated as www.katrinashoes.org, with several churches and civic groups partnering in the collection and distribution of footwear.

Soles4Souls has donated more than 2.5 million pairs of shoes to people in more than 30 countries through donations from footwear companies, retailers, churches, nonprofit ministries, civic groups, schools and individuals.

In addition to accessories, Brighton also produces handbags, belts, jewelry, small leather essentials, eyewear, luggage, fragrances and gifts.
