Police seeking two suspects in late-night robbery

Three men were seeking cash, 16-year-old tells police

Lawrence police are looking for two men in connection with an aggravated robbery late Sunday night in the 100 block of Arkansas Street.

A 16-year-old Lawrence woman told police that three men came into her home about 11 p.m. and that one of them pulled a gun and ordered her to get on the floor.

She told police that she ignored the man and ran after one of the other men who had gone into another room. The 16-year-old said the man was trying to steal $1,100 cash, but she told police she yanked his hooded sweat shirt off him, causing some of the money to fly out its pockets.

That man then ran through the front door – but lost his shoes outside, police said.

Meanwhile, the 16-year-old said she went into the living room, where the man with the gun tried to fire at her. She said she heard a click but no shots were fired. That man then fled out the front door, she told police.

The woman said her stepbrother initially had been asleep but woke up and had an altercation with the third man, before chasing the man out the back door.

About 45 minutes later, police arrested a 19-year-old Lawrence man on charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. Officers found $55 on the man, who had been walking near Sixth and Maine streets. They recovered no weapon.

After obtaining a search warrant of the victims’ residence, officers found $1,102 in cash from a freezer, a bong, a set of scales, plastic bags and residue consistent with marijuana, according to a police report.

Police are seeking a 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old man in connection with the incident.
