Lawrence Landscape owner enrolls in KARL

Frank Male, Lawrence, is among 30 members of the ninth class for KARL, the Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership program.

Male, co-owner of Lawrence Landscape and a former Lawrence-Douglas County planning commissioner, was recognized along with other incoming class members during a ceremony June 2 at Rolling Hills Zoo, west of Salina.

The two-year program includes participation in:

l Nine in-state seminars.

l A national seminar, called Blue Chip, scheduled to include a review of an internationally recognized corporation, a national study tour to Washington, D.C., and an international study tour to India.

The program is organized by KARL Inc., a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to identifying and developing leadership to enhance the quality of life for all Kansans. The program aims to help young Kansans through education, broadening their perspectives and enhancing their leadership skills.

KARL participants pay $2,500 in tuition for training through the program, which carries a cash value of nearly $15,000. The bulk of costs are covered by donations.
