4-H and FCE news

The Kanwaka Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Mary James. Aliene Bieber will give the lesson on “Where in the World Is Turku?”

¢The India Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the home of Frances Mercer. Genny Hunsinger will be the co-hostess, and Faye Young will give the lesson on “Liquid Assets! The Value of Fluids to Your Health.”

¢The highlight of the Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club’s meeting in May was a project talk given by young clothing members about how to accessorize an outfit. Garret Jones, vice president, led the meeting in place of the club president. Community leader Paula Aiken reminded members about several items: the Amazing Race 4-H camp; Campference, set for June 26-29; pre-entries are due by July 2 for the Douglas County Fair, which will be July 29-Aug. 4. At the end of the meeting, Addison Jones, recreation leader, organized a relay obstacle course for all members.

¢The Clinton Eagles 4-H Club conducted its monthly meeting May 21 at Wakarusa Valley School. Kahlyn Heine, president, called the meeting to order. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite 4-H project. A signup for fair shifts was circulated. The minutes were read and approved. A communication was read. Dustin Hoyt, treasurer, gave a report. Morgan Manger, reporter, announced that the report had been submitted.

Kahlyn Heine and Dalton Welsh, County Council representatives, discussed the 4-H tabloid planned in the Lawrence Journal-World. Piper Hubbell, recreation leader, announced that members would play wall ball after the meeting. Song leaders Connor Shuck and Adam Spurling sang “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.”

Community leader Lanaea Heine told the club that one fair book was provided to each family and that camp kickoff would be May 24 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, Building 21. Rod Heine reported that swine weigh-in would be June 2. Poultry leader Charlie Garzillo reported that blood testing for poultry would be July 14. Heine also told members that the auction animal committee would be accepting donations to buy an animal at the fair.

The club discussed the possibility of helping people affected by the Greensburg tornado. The club decided to wait for monetary donations to be received. Darian Barr was initiated into the club by Kirstyn Heine, vice president. Mary Garzillo gave a presentation on poultry judging.

The next meeting will be June 25 at the home of Rod and Lanaea Heine.
