Warthogs’ six-run fifth seals Monarchs’ fate
Down by four after an inning and a half, the Warthogs came roaring back with a seven-run second inning and never trailed again while defeating the Monarchs, 15-9, in Houk League action Friday at Holcom.
The Warthogs’ Chase Reiling started the second inning rampage by batting in a run on an infield hit. Alex Chaimberlain singled to drive in a runner. Nick Allen later drew a walk with the bases loaded. Shelby Politte hit a two-RBI single and Owen Blackwood did the same.
Stormy Mirtz had three RBI for the Monarchs, including an RBI double in his team’s last at bat. Mirtz’s teammate Kal Farley had a pair of hits and scored a run. Luke Cortese doubled and had an RBI single.
Leading 9-7 in the fifth, the Warthogs scored six insurance runs. Chaimberlain, Troy Larson, Politte and Holden Green all drove in runners for the Warthogs in their final at bat.
