Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for June 5, 1907: “There is a great interest throughout the nation about the Jamestown (Va.) Exposition that celebrates the centennial of the founding of the colony which many consider the roots of America. President Roosevelt will be among the main speakers at a wide variety of important events. : Officials point out that a good cure for the house-fly is clean yards and alleys. Few flies go to a place where there is no filth for them to feed upon. Some of the persons who kick the most may have the dirtiest yards. : The commencement issue of The Budget, the high school newspaper, is on the market and is an outstanding publication. It merits as much support as it can get. : Final events are under way for university commencement and the community has done well by the school with its decorations and support.”
