Fishing report

CLINTON LAKE (updated 5-31) – Water 69 degrees and 7.22 feet above normal pool. Discharge 1,000 cfs. Channel catfish fair using nightcrawlers, stinkbait and dead minnows in flooded cover. Flathead catfish good in the outlet using sunfish, shad and jigs. Biggest reported was 83 pounds. Drum good in the outlet using worms. Walleye-sauger good vertically fishing jig and nightcrawler on the flats. Some also being caught in the outlet on jigs. Note: Sampling May 30 revealed moderate numbers of crappie still close to shore, abundant channel cats in flooded cover near bank and moderate numbers of sauger and a few walleye off rocky banks. All boat ramps in state park now open. In Bloomington Park, ramp No. 7 is open.

PERRY LAKE (updated 5-23) – Water about 10 feet over normal pool. Channel catfish excellent using worms in the grass. Fish are shallow feeding like crazy before spawn. Sauger fair off the breaks near gravel using cranks or jigs. White bass fair to good off rocky points and rip-rap using shad-

colored cranks. White crappie fair on tube jigs or minnows at 5-8 feet. Note: State park ramps are unusable. Slough Creek ramps are open. Discharge changed from 12,000 cfs to 6,000 cfs Friday.

DOUGLAS STATE LAKE (updated 5-31) – Repairs have been completed, but lake tentatively won’t reopen until January of 2009 in order to allow re-stocked fish to mature. Currently over 90 acres in basin.

LEAVENWORTH STATE LAKE (updated 5-31) – Largemouth bass good while casting spinners, plastic worms. Channel catfish fair using chicken livers and stinkbait. Bluegill fair using worms under bobber. Note: All five air lines active. Feeders are working.

LONE STAR LAKE (updated 5-31) – Largemouth bass good using jigs and spinners. Bluegill good using worms under bobber or casting jigs or small spinners. Channel catfish fair using stinkbait, livers and nightcrawlers. Note: Electrofishing May 14 revealed an abundance of largemouth bass with good quality.

LAKE SHAWNEE (updated 5-31) – Water 72 degrees and clear to 36 inches. Channel catfish good using chicken livers and worms. Walleye good using jig and nightcrawler on flats. Largemouth bass good with most being caught near shore on spinners. Wiper fair using spinners and jig and nightcrawler. Note: Electrofishing May 29 revealed high catch rate of 10-15 inch largemouth bass with a few weighing up to five pounds. Also noted many channel catfish and a few rainbow trout near shore.
