Five-run ninth boosts Tribe

Indians 12, Tigers 11

Cleveland – David Dellucci singled home the winning run with two outs to cap a five-run ninth as Cleveland rallied past Detroit.

Tigers closer Todd Jones (1-3) blew his second straight save opportunity as the reeling Tigers lost for the seventh time in eight games and fell 41â2 games behind first-place Cleveland in the AL Central.

The Indians, 15-4 in the division, improved baseball’s best home record to 19-4. That’s the best start at home in Cleveland’s 107 years in the American League.

Yankees 9, Red Sox 5

Boston – One game after Alex Rodriguez offended some baseball purists by distracting a fielder during a popup, the Yankees built on that victory by beating the Red Sox on Friday and climbing out of the AL East cellar.

Twins 3, Athletics 2, 10 innings

Oakland, Calif. – Jeff Cirillo and Mike Redmond had RBI singles in the 10th inning, and Minnesota hung on for its fifth straight win. Luis Castillo doubled leading off the 10th against Kiko Calero (0-4), and Cirillo followed with a base hit to center.

Angels 3, Orioles 2

Anaheim, Calif. – John Lackey became the major leagues’ first nine-game winner.

White Sox 3, Blue Jays 0

Toronto – Javier Vazquez pitched eight shutout innings.

Rangers 9, Mariners 8

Seattle – Kenny Lofton took a home run away from Adrian Beltre in the seventh and drove in the go-ahead run in the next inning with a sacrifice fly.
