Aaron and Dawna Watkins, Raymore, Mo., announce the birth of their son, Nicholas Henri Watkins, born March 30, 2007, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park.
Nicholas’ maternal grandparents are Robert and Darlene Payne, De Soto, Mo. His paternal grandparents are Donald Watkins, Barbara Watkins and Mary Head, all of Lawrence. Great-grandparents are Agnes Payne, Montgomery City, Mo., and Rhonda Louise Gallion, Licking, Mo.
¢Brian and Teri Chambers, Eudora, announce the birth of their daughter, Rosalind Faye Chambers, born May 19, 2007, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Maternal grandparents are Kent and Sharon Olmstead, Winfield. Paternal grandparents are Betty and Wesley Chambers, Arkansas City.
¢The Eudora High School Alumni Association’s banquet and yearly meeting will be Sunday in the commons area at Eudora High School, 2203 Church St.
Registration begins at noon. The covered-dish dinner will start at 12:30 p.m., followed by the business meeting.
The banquet is open to all graduates of Eudora High School. Special recognition will be given to the Class of 1957. Those planning to attend are asked to bring their own table service. Coffee and tea will be provided.

¢Janelle McCoy, Tonganoxie, has been chosen as a member of the Ambassadors organization for 2007-2008 at Emporia State University. Members serve as the university’s official hosts, and their duties include volunteering at career fairs, receptions and other events, and conducting campus tours for prospective students. McCoy is a senior in communication.
¢Oskaloosa High School announces its Students of the Month for May: Elena Galli and Daniel Newell, both seniors; Danielle Jolliff, a junior; and Stephan Metzger, a sophomore. The students are recognized for their positive contributions in the school and community.
¢John Murray, Lawrence, won third place in an annual essay contest sponsored by the KU Credit Union. Murray, a graduating senior at Free State High School, received a $1,000 scholarship. Murray’s essay was on preventing fraud and identity theft. The credit union gave $6,000 in scholarships through the contest.
¢Kylie Campbell, a senior at McLouth High School, received the Dale Dennis Excellence in Education award sponsored by the United School Administrators of Kansas. Recipients are honored for high achievements in scholarship, citizenship and service to community and school.
¢Nicky Henriquez, Lawrence, earned the highest score in Kansas on a test in the American Mathematics Competition. He is a seventh-grader at Topeka Collegiate School. He was photographed with Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and received $25. He took the AMC-8, an exam for junior high school students.
¢Philip Anderson and Mallory Liss have been named Van Hoy Scholars at Doane College in Crete, Neb. Anderson is a 2007 graduate of Bishop Seabury Academy, and Liss is a 2007 graduate of Lawrence High School. The scholarship is valued at $5,000 a year.
¢Several area students from the Baker University’s College of Arts and Sciences were recognized for their academic achievements at the Academic and Leadership Honors Ceremony on May 6. Patrick Lattin, Lawrence, and Daniel Colwell, Ottawa, were honored as members of Alpha Delta Sigma, Baker’s highest academic honorary society. Chelsey Forge, Oskaloosa, was named a Mildred Hunt Riddle Honors Scholar.
¢Brandon Sayre, Lawrence, received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City on April 27.
¢Several area students received scholarships from Washburn University’s education department. Kristin Bell, Lawrence, received the Mose J. and Erma F. Whitson Scholarship, the Nellie Ansel Obrecht Scholarship, the Phi Delta Kappa Scholarships and an award from the Bertha M. Rightmire Scholarship Fund. Anne Kirk, Lawrence, received the Martha Peyton Fensch Scholarships. Theresa Shetler Logan, Lawrence, received the Sylvester A. Skoch Scholarship. Amanda Turner, Baldwin City, received the Esta M. Morgan Scholarship. Kassandra Williams, Perry, received the Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship.
¢Joshua Yurek, Lawrence, received the Bourke Extemporaneous Speaking Medal during the Student Academic Reception at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. The Bourke Extemporaneous Speaking Contest has been a university tradition since 1953.
¢Karen Lynn Ebmeier and Zachary Hattemer Hemenway, both of Lawrence, received Juris Doctor degrees from the College of Law at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Lawyer and author Scott Turow was scheduled to address law school graduates during commencement May 5.
¢Ben Bell, Lawrence, was elected treasurer of the Student Government Association this spring at Garden City Community College.
¢Jeffrey Standing, Lawrence, was selected as a governor’s scholar and was invited to the 24th annual awards program May 6 in Topeka. The program honors the top academic 1 percent of high school seniors in Kansas.
¢Lauren N. Sanders, Wells-ville, received a Bachelor of Science from Missouri State University in Springfield during commencement ceremonies May 18. She graduated magna cum laude for earning a grade point average between 3.75 and 3.89.
¢Cassandra Ann Armstrong, Neosho, Mo., received a Presidential Awards Scholarship and a Vocal Music Department Scholarship for the 2007-2008 year at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. Armstrong is a 2007 graduate of Neosho High School, where she graduated in the top 20 of her class. She plans to study vocal music education at Missouri Southern. She is the daughter of Rick and Susan Armstrong, and granddaughter of Richard and Ruby Armstrong, Baldwin City.
