The Lin Emery aluminum kinetic sculpture, “Flame,” was dedicated in ceremonies in front of city hall, where the piece still resides. The sculpture was designed to echo the Langston Hughes poetry on a plaque on the building: “We have tomorrow/bright before us/like a flame.” The Emery piece was designed to move constantly and withstand even high winds without damage.
