Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for July 31, 1907: “Evidence is that a number of Kansas farmers this year will hold their wheat off the market until they can get $1 a bushel. Some, however, say they cannot take part because they desperately need money. : Alfred Anderson, formerly a farmer in this area, was killed in a railroad accident at Omaha yesterday. There are no details of how the tragedy occurred but he is a native of Vinland who was well-liked. : Fourteen automobiles sold in seven months by one Lawrence firm is a pretty good record. Ford Motor Cars is located on West Warren Street. It sold 13 runabouts or touring cars and one second-hand machine. Autos are no longer a fad.”
