Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for July 30, 1907: “Local county evaluation has been released as $5,108,080, only a slight increase over the past year. : A mule valued at $400 was killed by a lightning strike on the B.C. Jewett property south of town. And M.G. Reed lost a horse to the storm. : University boys scattered over Kansas are getting daily letters from football coach Bert Kennedy about how to report in good shape and get ready for an ‘outstanding year.’ There are eight lettermen returning and hopes are high. Carl Rouse will be captain of the team. He has been gaining strength working in the Kansas harvest fields this summer.”
