Old Home Town - 100 years ago

July 28, 2007

From the Lawrence Daily World for July 28, 1907: "There is no reason to worry that the Manual Training School bonds have not been sold. It will happen in due time and the sales are due to be made this winter. In the meantime, the work on the new structure will commence and go on as scheduled. Our children badly need such a training program. : Perhaps the heavy heat this year is a way of rebuking the prophets who said we were in for a cold summer and that we might not even have a summer due to that. : Copy for the premium list for the County Fair Sept. 17-21 is in the hands of the printer and 5,000 copies of a 90-page booklet are due soon. It is the biggest list in our history and the cash rewards will run well over $8,000. .: A large diamond was sold to a Kansas City couple today by Gustfson Jewelry and though the price has not been announced, it was a big stone that brought a large amount of money."
