From the Lawrence Daily World for July 27, 1907: “The Lawrence Business College is getting a number of complimentary letters from recent students who point out how much they benefited by attending the school here. It is a fine entity for Lawrence. : There have been a number of serious lightning strikes here recently but so far there have been no serious injuries or major damage, although a number of trees have been de-barked and even split. : Commander Robert E. Peary has completed arrangements for his fifth voyage in search of the North Pole. He is nervous about delays that might make his latest venture more difficult. Originally, he was to have left July 1 to beat certain types of weather. : Scientists tell us that other planets are stealing heat from Earth but nobody has come forth with any plan to stop or control this phenomenon.”
