Farm Service Agency deadline approaches

Farmers face deadlines next week for making reports required for participation in several programs provided through the Farm Service Agency.

Johnathon Alley, the agency’s county executive director in Douglas County, said that a Wednesday deadline applies for several programs that can provide supplemental income to help producers cover expenses of maintaining a crop or livestock operation.

Acreage reports are required for Price Support Programs, Noninsured Crop Assistance Program (NAP), Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), and the Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program. Wednesday is the final date to certify spring seeded crops and CRP. NAP acreages must be certified either by Wednesday or 15 days prior to the onset of harvest or grazing.

Wednesday also is the deadline for requesting a farm reconstitution.

Farmers and landowners with base acres and yields have until Aug. 3 to enroll in the 2007 Direct and Counter-cyclical Payment Program.

To certify acreages, contact the Douglas County Farm Service Agency at 843-4260, ext. 2, for an appointment.
