Heart of America Hospice seeks volunteers to visit patients at their homes or nursing homes and provide support to them and their families through acts of kindness such as making a phone call, sending a card, baking cookies, sewing, mowing the grass, sharing a story or simply listening and holding a hand.

Immediate volunteer needs

¢ The Farm Inc. Family Services Visitation and Exchange Center seeks volunteers to supervise visits and exchanges between children and their parents. Volunteers can set their schedules in this flexible setting, with a commitment of one hour per month. Volunteers will work with other volunteers, staff and law enforcement officials.

¢ The Centro Hispano Resource Center seeks volunteers to continue instruction of two English as a Second Language classes. Volunteers will work with a group of Spanish-speaking adults from the community.

The classes take place Monday night and Wednesday morning at United Way center and will continue into September. People with training and experience teaching ESL are preferred.

¢ The Lied Center is in need of 20 to 30 ushers to help with greeting patrons, handing out programs and tearing tickets for upcoming performances.

Volunteer ushers must commit for six months and sign up for events at the beginning of each semester. Usher orientation will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Lied Center.

¢ Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore seeks regular weekly or one-day volunteers to carry and sort donations of building materials, assist customers with purchases, and do light cleaning and preparation of materials. Heavy lifting is not required.

¢ The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office at Clinton Lake is looking for volunteers interested in one-time or ongoing tasks such as picking up litter, painting, weeding, mulching, maintaining trails and other tasks.
