Club news

The University Bridge Club announces results of its July 14 meeting. Hosts were Tom and Cathy Waller. Blue winners were Dan Harden, first; Leonard Fleske, second; George Bocquin, third; Dorothy “Dottie” Miller, fourth; and Walt Hicks, fifth. Pink winners were Aileen Bocquin, first; Mary Fleske, second; Isabelle Schaake, third; Lois Liebert, fourth; and Alice Akin, fifth.

¢The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club played another qualifying game for the North American Pairs competition July 11. The game was a stratified Howell movement directed by Chris Lane.

Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro placed first in A, followed by John Reese and Shirley Reese at second in A and first in B. Virginia Seaver and Madelyn Jenks were third in A. Fourth place in A and second place in B was a tie between Sally Taylor and Yvonne Hedges, with Grant Sutton and Chuck Hedges.

Bebe Huxtable and Wanna Roszel placed first in C. A total of 68 players have qualified to play at the next level in the North American Pairs competition.

¢The Thursday Morning Bridge Club played a Howell movement directed by Chris Lane on July 12. Eldon Herd and Bebe Huxtable placed first, followed by Adelaide Nyquist and Chris Lane. Wanna Roszel and Frances Vogel took third, followed by Ann Tams and Marilyn Martin.

¢The Monday Evening Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement directed by Virginia Seaver on July 16. North-South was led by Janice Bremer and Kelley Bremer at first in A and B, followed by Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough, then Harry Shaffer and Grant Sutton. Jim Stewart and Jeff Nash placed fourth in A and second in B.

The East-West winners were Dave Piro and Peter Petillo at first in A, followed by Jo Andersen and Ann Thompson at second in A and first in B and C. Jerry Sloan and Lois Clark were third in A, with Barbara Merriam and Dorothy Netson at second in B and C.
