Boston hurler becomes 2nd AL pitcher to reach 13 wins

Red Sox 10, White Sox 3

Boston – Josh Beckett had 10 strikeouts and tied for the major league lead with his 13th win as the Boston Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak with a 10-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.

Coco Crisp’s three-run triple in the fifth inning gave Boston a 4-3 lead and a revived Julio Lugo hit a grand slam in the eighth, driving in the last of the 10 runs allowed by starter Jose Contreras.

Beckett (13-3) has allowed just seven homers after giving up a career-high 36 last season, his first with Boston. He went six innings, allowing four hits and two walks, both in the first when he worked out of the jam.

He struck out at least 10 for the sixth time and the first since April 10, 2005 with Florida, and tied Cleveland’s C.C. Sabathia with 13 wins.

New York – Edwin Jackson won on the road for the first time since 2003 and B.J. Upton hit two homers to help the Tampa Bay Devil Rays rout the New York Yankees 14-4 on Friday night.

Mariners 4, Blue Jays 2

Toronto – Adrian Beltre hit a two-run homer, Miguel Batista earned his 10th win and the Seattle Mariners beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 on Friday night.

Twins 7, Angels 5

Minneapolis – Justin Morneau homered, drove in three runs and helped get Minnesota’s struggling offense going, leading the Twins past All-Star John Lackey and the Los Angeles Angels 7-5 on Friday night.

Indians 3, Rangers 2

Arlington, Texas – Fausto Carmona (12-4) allowed three hits over eight shutout innings and the Cleveland Indians survived a shaky ninth for a 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night.

Orioles 6, Athletics 1

Oakland, Calif. – Erik Bedard struck out 11 and won his fifth straight decision, leading the Baltimore Orioles past the Oakland Athletics 6-1 on Friday night.
