Banks hole in one: Bob Banks used an 8-iron to ace the No. 8 hole at the Orchards on July 17. Witnesses were Allen Penix, Jane Kiosow, Sonny Peterson, and Larry Grantenbein.

¢Junior High football: Southwest Junior High School football coaches will hold their informational meetings for parents and players, followed by equipment check-out, on Aug. 8 for freshmen and Aug. 9 for 8th-graders. Greg Wyatt-Mike McNelly, 1-up; net four-ball 1 – Mike Beaton-Mike Hertling, JGC, halved with Kent Scott-Joe Campin; net four-ball 2 – Drew Walters-Dirk Wedd, JGC, def. Eric Larson-Bryan Neuendorf, 5-and-4; senior net four-ball – Mike Adams Sr.-Paul Sessel, NGC, def. ¢Jayhawk Golf Club Results: Mike Beaton shot 68 to win the regular Jayhawk Golf Club tournament on July 15. Other results: Sean Claycamp 68, Pete Whitenight 69, Brent Mertz 70, Van Reichert 70, Mike Naegele 70, Chris Anderson 71, Mike Favre 71 and Keith Wallace 71.

¢Three-Ball Waltz Tournament: Mike Favre, Charles Pauls, Bud Stagg, and Mike Stein shot 8-under 129 to win the Three-Ball Waltz Tournament on July 7 at Alvamar Public. Second place went to Chris Anderson, Ted Johnson, Brent Mertz and Keith Wallace at 17-under 130. Mike Beaton, Mike Naegele, Robert Ward and Pete Whitenight shot 16-under 131 for third place.

¢Chapple records ace: Todd Chapple used a 5-iron from 182 yards out to hit a hole-in-one on the 15th hole at Alvamar Public during Jayhawk Golf Club match play on July 4. The ace was witnessed by Rich Anthony, Jeff Miller and Tom Taylor.

¢Swimmers Win at SSG: Two Lawrence sportswomen won age-group competition at the Sunflower State Games held in Topeka July 15. Carol Francis won the 50-, 100- and 200-meter freestyle, as well as the 50- and 100-meter breaststroke. Joanie Starks won the 50-, 200- and 400-meter freestyle, the 50- and 200-meter breaststroke and one-meter diving.

¢Powers Hole in One: Brandon “B.J.” Powers aced No. 4 at Alvamar Public on July 12. Powers used a 5-iron the 185-yard hole for the shot witnessed by Jared Dunn and Ryan Waggoner.

¢Little League Football: Sign-up sessions for Little League football conducted by Lawrence Youth Football Inc. will be at 7 p.m. July 25 and at 10 a.m. July 28.
