J-W launches new faith blog

Stories that deal with faith often are among those with the most comments here on www.ljworld.com.

For example, dozens of Journal-World readers get online each week to discuss the Faith Forum topic and the responses from local faith leaders.

Faith-related news often is popular – a story this past week about the Pope Benedict XVI’s assertion that non-Catholic churches didn’t represent true Christianity generated nearly 140 comments in the first two days it was posted.

The comments often cover the spectrum of religious – and nonreligious – beliefs.

Starting today, the Journal-World is tapping into that interest by starting a new blog, Faith Files, which will look at issues of faith, spirituality, morals and ethics.

The blog, which will be updated several times weekly by religion beat writer Terry Rombeck, will cover topics such as:

¢ Local faith news, including the lighter side of religion.

¢ National religion stories, often with comments from locals.

¢ Short profiles of locals talking about their beliefs.

¢ Faith in popular culture.

¢ Additional resources to accompany Journal-World religion stories and the Faith Forum.

¢ Thoughts from local experts and others about moral and ethical issues in the news.

The blog will serve both to provide information and be a forum for community discussion.

Most of all, we need your help. Please send your news tips and

suggestions to Rombeck at trombeck@ljworld.com, or call him at 832-7145.
