KU employees named to Continuing Ed posts

Two Kansas University executives were named to positions in the KU Continuing Education department Thursday.

KU Provost Richard Lariviere named Fred Pawlicki, interim executive director of Continuing Education, as executive director. Pawlicki named Jim Long, KU vice provost for facilities planning and management, as director for outreach development, a new Continuing Education position.

Pawlicki said he wanted to increase the department’s involvement with cities and communities across the state.

“We want to be able to really find out how KU and Continuing Education can better serve all of Kansas,” he said.

Part of the outreach effort will be Long’s new position. Long will talk with leaders in cities across the state to determine what additional training and services Continuing Education can provide.

Continuing Education oversees programs such as independent study courses, state fire and law enforcement training, and professional development courses.

Long will leave his previous position in the provost’s office. Don Steeples, vice provost for scholarly support, said the office had not yet announced whether it would find a replacement. Steeples said he had assumed oversight of the departments that had reported to Long’s position for now.
