From the Lawrence Daily World for July 11, 1907: “During the two years the state printing plant has been owned by the state it has now saved more than $65,000. State ownership has been a glittering success and the savings have almost paid for the plant. : A woman and her son are on trial in Maryland for killing a man ‘who ruined my daughter (and the son’s sister).” She is confident that the chivalry of the jury will acquit the two of them considering the nature of the crime. : The convention of ministers and delegates of the African Baptist Churches of Kaw Valley report they have made good progress in their meetings here. Attendance at the convention has been far larger than expected. Some 40 churches are represented.”
