Patrons of Lawrence School District 497 were due to pay a staggering tax rate increase for the coming academic year under the terms of the 1967-68 budget. The local levy was to jump from 21.24 mills to about 30 mills, largely due to reduced aid from the state and county. Expenditures were to rise more than 19 percent.
