Old Home Town – 25 years ago

Amelia Betts and Katharine Kelley, both of Baldwin City, were leading efforts to restore Santa Fe Trail markers throughout the country but particularly in northeast Kansas. They seemed to be receiving enthusiastic support, at least in this region.

Six people suffered minor injuries in the early hours of the day as high winds from a storm system toppled several camping vehicles and tents at a Clinton Lake campground. Winds, clocked at more than 50 mph also caused some power outages in Lawrence but damage in the city was not extensive.
