From the Lawrence Daily World for July 8, 1907: “Oskaloosa has saved itself as the county seat but it took prompt and organized action after it appeared part of the county would join Douglas County and Oskaloosa would fade. Seventy members are pledged to getting the town moving and it is becoming a busy place. The threat of losing status woke up the town and Valley Falls will not get the county seat. : ‘Aunt Jane’ Williams was found guilty in police court this morning of selling liquor and maintaining a nuisance. She was fined $100 and ordered to serve 30 days in jail.”
