Great getaways

Before you leave for that romantic vacation, check out some suggestions from the July/August issue of Men’s Health. The magazine offers ways to thwart couples’ common traveling woes:

¢ If you’re going away for a long weekend, and she – or he, for that matter – packs enough clothes for the whole summer, give the packing offender the forecast for the time you’re traveling and a list of planned activities. Knowing what to expect may help reduce excessive cargo. If you want to go the extra step, ship any overstuffed luggage ahead of time.

¢ If you get lost in a non-English-speaking country, don’t lose your cool. Pick the biggest landmark or most popular tourist spot and say it to a kind-looking local. You can also take your hotel’s business card before you leave for the day and hand it to a taxi driver if you get off course.

¢ If you’re sick of the frenzy that occurs before you leave for the airport, prepare for your trip a least a full day before your flight leaves. Also, avoid flights that depart before 10 a.m., when you could face heavy traffic.
