Douglas County District Attorney Mike Malone said he would seek to have the 17-year-old girl suspected in the murder of a Lawrence carpenter tried as an adult. The girl, Lisa Dawn Bigenwalt, was one of two juveniles implicated in the recent slaying of Bigenwalt’s great-uncle, Donald L. Hatchell, 49.

City Manager Buford Watson proposed a $29.4 million 1983 city budget which included a tax increase of 4.921 mills to cover a loss of revenues from the repeal of the intangibles tax and a 6 percent increase in city employee salaries. Watson told the city commission the budget proposal held the line on city services and included a net decrease of one employee.

The body of Albert Sieber, 103 Mich., was recovered from the Kansas River here. He had disappeared several days earlier while fishing along the river.
