From the Lawrence Daily World for July 7, 1907: “The Board of Education has awarded the contract for building the new Manual Training High School to E.H. Schneider of Lawrence. Schneider made an original bid of $32,469 but later adjusted it down to $30,754. Work is to begin in August and be finished by next March 1. : The Perry Mirror doesn’t claim to publish all the news. ‘If we did,’ the editor explained, ‘we would be with the angels about 20 minutes after the papers were mailed.’ We understand that comment. : One million two hundred thousand gallons, or nearly a million and a quarter gallons a day, are being pumped out at present at the plant of the city waterworks. : Potato growers everywhere are having a difficult time due to the heavy rains. Water has caused sun-burn on the crops and some local crops were washed out entirely.”
