Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for July 5, 1907: “Farmers near Worden have organized to fight the fire insurance trust they feel is taking advantage of them. They intend to work with each other to fight fires rather than having outsiders charge them so much. : Local property owners who keep their property in good shape are beginning to organize to fight those who let things deteriorate to the point of eyesores and disease threats. : From Chicago we learn that 37 were killed and 2,395 were hurt across the country because of fireworks accidents. Damage is supposed to have topped $50,000 with reports still coming in. . . . Locally there were six boys injured and one girl lost a toe but there were no critical wounds to report.”
