An estimated 15,000 turned out in Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium to see the local Jaycees detonate more than $7,000 in fireworks for the annual July 4 celebration. Heat was a problem after the daytime high hit 95 degrees, but there were no accidents and things went “very smoothly,” according to Steve Figuieras of the Jaycees.
