Kelly Mehrtens won't have to take a pay cut to become athletic director at North Carolina-Wilmington.

Mehrtens, who was named the UNCW's AD on Monday - her 44th birthday, agreed to a four-year contract worth $171,000 per year.

Coincidentally, that's the same salary Mehrtens was earning as Senior Woman Administrator with the Kansas University athletic department.

Mehrtens, who spent the last four years at KU, will take over the UNCW post on Aug. 13. Her deal also includes the use of an automobile, 24 vacation days and a country club membership.

The "Senior Woman Administrator" at KU gets 40-50 grand a year more then say the Lawrence City manager? Students drop out of your government classes.

The Senior Woman Administrator and the City Manager both are paid what the market will bear. It's capitalism at work. The free market economy is rewarding those who take on jobs that society values.
