Wilmington raids KU athletic staff for AD

? Kansas University senior women’s adminstrator Kelly Landry Mehrtens has been named athletic director at North Carolina Wilmington. Mehrtens was introduced by Chancellor Rosemary DePaulo at a Monday morning news conference.

She begins her new post Aug. 13.

A native of Panama City, Fla., Mehrtens spent four years at KU.

“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to lead the UNCW athletic department,” Mehrtens said. “We have a terrific group of coaches, staff and student-athletes who are committed to athletic and academic excellence.

“I’m committed to those same goals, as well as the seven strategic goals for the university.”

Mehrtens developed KU’s student-athlete development/leadership program and worked with the student-athlete advisory committee to raise $1 million to help fund women’s sports facilities.
