Titles by several Lawrence residents have been named 2007 Kansas Notable Books by the Kansas Center for the Book.

Fiction, nonfiction and children’s books all populate the list, which is considered to contain the best of the books published by Kansas authors or about Kansas in the preceding year. This is the second year for the list; it includes four books published by the University Press of Kansas.

“Each title – fiction or non-fiction, poetry, children’s or young adult books – speaks to the rich cultural heritage of Kansas,” says Roy Bird, director of the center. “You cannot read any one of the books on this list without learning something more about our great state.”

Among the Lawrence authors recognized is Stephen T. Johnson for “My Little Yellow Taxi.” All the authors will be honored at the Kansas Book Festival Oct. 5-6 in Wichita.

Kansas Notable Books is a project of the Kansas Center for the Book at the State Library of Kansas and was created to recognize the state’s literary richness. A committee of the Kansas Center for the Book Board of Affiliates is responsible for identifying the titles, and this year’s selection committee included representatives from libraries, booksellers, publishers and authors.
