Lecompton bridge bid on Douglas County agenda

Douglas County commissioners tonight will consider awarding a contract for repairing the Kansas River bridge at Lecompton.

Bids were opened earlier this month. County Engineer Keith Browning recommends giving the contract to A.M. Cohron & Son Inc., of Atlantic, Iowa. It has a regional office in Emporia.

The firm submitted a low bid of about $2.518 million, which was slightly higher than the county’s estimate. The firm recently constructed bridges on the Kansas Turnpike.

Commissioners also will:

¢ Conduct a public hearing for the North 600 Road benefit district and consider approving a resolution forming that district.

¢ Discuss a letter to the Dreher estate about the disposition of the Dreher gift to the Douglas County 4-H Foundation.

¢ Discuss the dust palliative program for 2007.

The consent agenda includes a request from KLM Marketing Solutions for use of Lone Star Lake and marina for the fourth annual Midwest Mayhem Triathlon.

Commissioners meet at 6:35 p.m. on the second floor of the courthouse, 1100 Mass.
