Paraeducator receives ‘Class Act Award’

Abbey Jones, a Free State High School paraeducator, recently was honored by the Lawrence school district and KU Credit Union with a “Class Act Award.”

Jones, a paraeducator in family and consumer sciences, has worked at Free State since 2005.

Robert Arevalo, the district’s personnel director, said Jones had been described as “a very creative and caring individual whose presence is valued and respected in the classroom.”

Arevalo said Jones continued to look for ways to provide support and assistance to students.

“She is also very skilled in graphic design and has assisted student groups in designing brochures, fliers and posters,” he said.

Jones also is an adviser for the school’s student council and baking club.

The award includes $50 from KU Credit Union.
