When Shanda Murdoch, a 6-foot-3 forward, became eligible to play for the Haskell Indian Nations University women’s basketball team at the beginning of the semester, coach Phil Homeratha knew the team would be better for it.

“I’ve never had a true post player before,” he said.

Murdoch’s 26 points led the Indians to a 70-59 victory against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday at Coffin Complex.

“We should’ve beaten them worse,” Homeratha said, citing the turnover differential. Wesleyan turned the ball over 23 times to Haskell’s nine.

Guard Amber Tecumseh added 17 points for the Indians, who improved to 10-12 overall and 2-3 in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Indians will travel to Nebraska on Friday and Saturday for games at St. Mary and York College.
