Eagles sweep Flint Hills

? Josh Masrud scored 13 points, while Michael Kay and Micah Barclay had 11 each in Veritas Christian School’s 63-38 victory over Flint Hills in boys basketball Friday night at the Eudora Community Building.

“We shot the ball well in the first half,” coach Doug Bennett said after his team hit 51 percent of its shots in the rout.

“Hopefully it’s something we can build on and keep that momentum going the rest of the season.”

Mason Hammer scored six points early and finished with seven rebounds, while Isaiah Dover and Taylor Zook had five boards each.

It marked the second win of the season for Veritas.

“It was one of our better games,” Bennett said. “We played well in all aspects of the game.”

Veritas will meet Olathe Christian in a make-up game at 7:30 p.m. today at Eudora Community Building.

“We met them in the Elwood tournament,” Bennett said. “As good as we played tonight, we played badly in that game. We can play with them, but they put it to us pretty good. Hopefully we’ll be able to build on this and play well tomorrow night.”

Eudora – Stifling full-court-pressure defense and another double-double from Kristie Tiegreen lifted the Veritas Christian girls basketball team over Flint Hills Christian.

“We really did a good job of pressuring,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “We took advantage of that and got some easy buckets on the offensive end.”

Tiegreen scored 22 points and added 19 rebounds and six steals.

“She’s just having solid games of 18 to 20 points and 18 to 20 rebounds every time out,” Shelton said. “We got pretty decent scoring around her, but we’re still looking for someone to get more than 10.”

Caroline Mayhew and Susan Wilson scored eight and six, respectively, for the Eagles.

Veritas improved to 5-8 and will play host to Olathe Christian at 6 p.m. today.
